Preventative Care

We consider the following vaccinations to be core for all pets:

DOGS: Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, and Leptosiprosis

CATS: Rabies and FVRCP

Other vaccinations may be recommended depending

on your pets age or environment including:

DOGS: Lyme, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and Influenza

CATS: Feline Leukemia Virus, Bordetella (Kennel Cough)

Just like your doctor makes recommendations to check blood pressure, cholesterol, or other age specific diagnostics - We recommend regular screening for your pets. Its even more important because your pet can often have mild or even no symptoms of concerning conditions until it is too late to treat or control the disease.

We recommended the following annually in all pets:

- Intestinal parasite screening (stool sample)

- Parasite-borne disease panel for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma

* Additional testing is recommended for pets on chronic medications or with other risk factors

We believe it is critical to protect your pets against the diseases carries by mosquitos, fleas, and ticks.

Lyme disease is a tick borne disease and a lifelong problem even with prompt treatment.

Heartworm disease can scar the heart even before clinical signs are seen and is very expensive to treat.

There are many options for parasite control that we can discuss but for most pets we recommend the following:

Dogs: Simparica Trio (monthly chewable)

Cats: Revolution Plus (monthly topical)

These options as well as many others are available through our online pharmacy. We do not carry preventative product with us to home visits

The most important step in keeping your pet pain free and active for as long as possible is good nutrition! This means not only providing the correct balance of nutrition but also ensuring the right amount. A couch potato Chihuahua that lives in a small apartment and an active German Shorthaired Pointer that goes hunting every weekend have very different nutritional requirements. We will discuss diet and weight management at every visit, and help guide you to the option that is best suited for you and your pet.

That being said there are a few overarching principles that we recommend for all pets:

- Measured feeding is best.

- Avoid raw food.

- Avoid Human foods.

Preventing behavioral issues and addressing mental health concerns early is critical to the quality of life of your pet. We will discuss training, enrichment, and interventions that can improve your pets life on a daily bases. This can range from socialization and puppy classes to different types of toys or training to utilize at home.

Please don't hesitate to talk to us about any undesirable or concerning behaviors your pets are displaying at each visit. If there is a specific concern you would like addressed in more depth we recommend scheduling a behavior consultation. We even offer packages that include several follow up appointments to help adjust a treatment and training plan as needed
